When we visit a place or a moment in time we often not only want to bring something back with us, but also leave our mark behind.
Designed for the theme of The Visitor exhibition by Okay Studio and friends, the Mark-Maker concept was conceived for the visitors at the show to have a closer involvement with the outcome of the piece and to leave a representation of themselves behind.
With a table top made up of thirty layers of different coloured paint, the guests to the exhibition were encouraged to sand their way through the seemingly mundane grey top surface, revealing a spectrum of colour and collectively manipulating the final appearance of the piece. The end of the exhibition marked the conclusion to the piece. A clear lacquer seals the finished product and it’s representation of the event.
Scope for commission pieces:
- Limited edition furniture developed with the same concept of multiple layers being revealed. Even with identical colour combinations, each product will result in a unique finish.
- Customer adapted pieces where the client can be involved and have free reign over the sanding and therefore final pattern. This can involve an unknown combination of colours or client’s own selection.
Designer commissioned/finished pieces – Hand sanded by Ed Swan.
